CA State Senator wants to tighten data security

California State Senator Joe Simitian of Palo Alto, who has had success getting pro-privacy legislation passed in California, is working to tighten the state’s security-breach notification law, the nation’s first. Under his bill, security-breach notices would have to be written in plain language and contain a description of the type of information that may have been compromised and include toll free numbers for the major credit reporting agencies.
